The 8.0-magnitude quake hit China's southwest Sichuan Province on May, 12. As the search-and-rescue efforts entered an eighth day, the death toll hovered around 33,000 and thousands of people are still missing and out of reach.
The AMSS leader groups responded the disaster quickly and made a series of arrangements for the disaster relief, including the donation activity. The AMSS staffs, who were deeply shocked by such a severe disaster, had been making donations for the ongoing rescue operation since the morning of May 13. The donation activity lasted three days. Donators included academicians, professors, graduates and retired staff, and so on. Some of them donated for more than one time. Some of them took out all the money in the pocket. Some retired staffs came all the way to AMSS to offer their love and support.
AMSS, from the leaders to ordinary staffs, likes a large united group, has made great efforts to do disaster relief work together.
