China-Germany conference on "Mathematics and Industry" was held from March 15 to 18, 2010 in Beijing, China.About 200 scholars at home and Germany attended the opening ceremony. The participants of the conference are from both academy and industry, such as Siemens, Lufthansa, China Aviation, Microsoft, IBM and Hong Kong Railways, etc.
Prof. Martin Groetschel, Secretary-general of International Mathematical Union,Dr.Thorsten Koch from Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) and Prof. Ma Zhiming , President of the Chinese Mathematical Society served as the co-chairs of the Organizing Committee. Prof. Yuan Yaxiang from AMSS, as the secretary -general of the Organizing Committee presided over the opening ceremony. Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS) President Prof.Guo Lei , AMSS Prof. Ma Zhiming , Prof. Martin Groetschel and Mr. Matthias Hack, Counselor for scientific and technological affairs from German Embassy to China made speeches at the ceremony, respectively.
The conference is one of the series of activities celebrating the Sino-Germany Year of Science and Technology. It is jointly organized by Zuse Institute Berlin, Germany and the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, which consists 8 mini-symposium including Mathematics for Production, Robust Design and Optimization, Multi-physics Simulation, Geo Sciences and Oil Industry, Infrastructure Networks, Computational Biology, Mathematics for Finance and Traffic and Transportation.
The conference was co-sponsored by State Key Laboratory of Scientific and Engineering Computing, Institute of Computational Mathematics and Scientific/Engineering Computing, Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Mathematical Society, School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University, Bundersministerium fuer Bildung und Forschung, Deutsch-Chinesisches Jahr der Wissenschaft und Bildung 2009/10, Zuse Institute Berlin and DFG Research center Matheon.
