Conference held for Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation awards, 2010 was held on Oct.11, 2010 in Beijing. Prof. Li Banghe was honored with the Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievements of Ho Leung Ho Lee foundation in Mathematics and Mechanics.

Prof. Li Banghe was born in July, 1942, in Yueqing City, Zhejiang Province, and voted to be a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001.His main research fields are differential topology and low-dimensional topology. On immeresion theory, one of the major subjects in differential topology, he found new frameworks and techniques, corrected errors of some famous mathematicians, earned pretty many results to open a new aspect for this subject. For the minimal genus problem in 4-dimensional topology, he created several positive constructive techniques, which were thought as dream by Fields medal winner Donaldson, to bring some breakthroughs. In studying Witten invariants of 3-dimensional manifolds, he found new invariants, and thoroughly calculated invariants of a class of manifolds. Moreover, he makes contributions also in other fields, such as nonstandard analysis, generalized functions, partial differential equations, and mathematical biology.

Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was established on March 30, 1994 in Hong Kong with funds donated by the S H Ho Foundation Limited, Dr Kau-Kui Leung, Dr Ho Tim and Dr. Lee Quo-Wei’s Wei Lun Foundation Limited. The purposes of the Foundation are to promote the development of science and technology in China and to reward the scientific and technical personnel with outstanding achievements and great innovations. The Foundation sets three annual prizes. They are the Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievements of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, and the Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation.
