The Fifth International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians Held in Beijing

The Fifth International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) was held in Beijing from December 17 to December 22, 2010. It has drawn over 1,000 participants of Chinese descent from around the world.

ICCM 2010 was especially dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Hua Loo-Keng and 99th anniversary of S.S. Chern. Morningside Medal, Chern Prize, International Cooperation Award, and the New World Mathematics Award were announced during the congress. There were about twenty one-hour talks and over one hundred fifty 45-minutes talks on a full spectrum of mathematical topics.

Prof. Guo Lei, the president of AMSS gave one-hour plenary lecture named feedback and uncertainty. The one-hour lecture named frobenius morphism and semi-stable bundles was delivered by Prof. Sun Xiaotao of AMSS. About 15 mathematicians from AMSS gave 45-minutes invited talks.

ICCM is a triennial event that brings together Chinese and overseas mathematicians to discuss the latest research developments in pure and applied mathematics. The first Congress was held in December 1998 at the Great Hall of the People and the Morningside Center of Mathematics in Beijing. The subsequent Congress took place in Taipei, Hong Kong and Hangzhou.

ICCM 2010 Congress Chairman was Prof. Shing-Tung Yau. It was sponsored by Hong Kong Morningside Group, AMSS and Tsinghua University.
