CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) President BAI Chunli came to Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS) on Jun. 14, 2011 to inspect basic research of CAS. Vice-President of CAS ZHAN Wenlong and DING Zhongli, other leaders of CAS, and Directors of ten institutes of CAS for basic research attended the symposium.

BAI Chunli made an important speech. He pointed out that basic research on fundamental science is the wellspring and driving force of innovation. He said that Chinese government will further promote the development of basic research and promised CAS will continue to increase the level of support for basic research in the future. Cultivation and attraction of top-notch scientists and high-level talents is also emphasized in his speech. Besides, he indicated that institutes for basic research should make academic achievements at the world's most advanced level.

AMSS President GUO Lei introduced overall thinking and measures on basic research concerning mathematics and related disciplines. He expressed that AMSS will explore innovative mechanism and research models for interdisciplinary sciences research and talents-training based on the establishment of National Center of Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (NCMIS). He also mentioned that providing AMSS with continuous, steady and sufficient support on mathematics would be necessary.
