International symposium on frontiers of operations research (ISFOR’2011) dedicated to the 90th birthday of Prof. YUE Minyi was held on June 25 -26, 2011 in AMSS. More than 200 scholars at home and abroad attended this event.

Prof. WANG Yuefei, Vice-president of AMSS made a speech. He mentioned that Prof. YUE Minyi has devoted himself to pushing forward the development of Chinese operations research and talents-training for more than 50 years and set high value on Prof. YUE Minyi’s spirit and achievements. Besides, He wished the symposium can be a platform for deeper exchange and imminent cooperation for operations researches at home and abroad.

Prof. YUAN Yaxiang, President of Operations Research Society of China (ORSC) ,Prof. MA Zhiming, President of Chinese Mathematical Society and Prof. GONG Fuzhou, Director of the Institute of Applied Mathematics, AMSS made speeches, respectively. They spoke highly of Prof. YUE Minyi’s contribution to Chinese operations research and talents-training.

Prof. YUE Minyi is the founder and pioneer of Chinese operation research. He made achievements at the world's most advanced level in queuing theory, on-linear optimization and combinatorial optimization, etc. Prof. YUE Minyi assumed the presidency of ORSC at the Second National Conference held in 1984, in Shanghai. He was awarded many prizes, including Third Prize of National Natural Science Award of China, CAS Natural Science Award (first class), etc. 

There were about 15 invited reports on a full spectrum of operation research topics. The conference was hosted by Operations Research Society of China and co-supported by China Association for Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, AMSS, the Institute of Applied Mathematics, AMSS and Key Laboratory of Management, Decision and Information Systems, CAS.
