Prof. Fadil Santosa, the Director of the Institute for Mathematics and its Application (IMA) of Univ. of Minnesota and the Vice-director of the institute had a visit at AMSS on Oct.20, 2011. The conference was presided over by Prof. WANG Yuefei, the Vice-president of AMSS.
Prof. WANG Yuefei made an overall introduction on AMSS and the National Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences newly founded in 2010. Prof. Fadil Santosa also introduced the IMA of Univ. of Minnesota concisely. Both sides reached a consensus that a long and effective cooperative partnership including postdoctoral-jointly training and academic conferences co–sponsoring should be established in the future.
The IMA of Univ. of Minnesota, founded in 1982, is an NSF-funded visitors'institute and a vital component of the mathematical sciences infrastructure in the United States. It connects scientists, engineers, and mathematicians in order to address scientific and technological challenges in a collaborative, engaging environment, developing transformative, new mathematics and exploring its applications, while training the next generation of researchers and educators.
