AMSS scientist Prof. ZHANG Ping was awarded with the 2nd prize of the National Natural Science Prize for his outstanding research achievements in his work “Several studies on equations from fluid and quantum mechanics”.
Prof. ZHANG got his Ph.D. degree in June of 1997 and has been the full professor of AMSS since 2003. His research interests include Micro-local Analysis and Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations from mathematical physics. The main works he was awarded this prize include: 1. Joint with SONG Jiang, they improved the work of Fields medalist, P.L. Lions, on the global weak solutions of the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations; 2. In the 1-D case, together with the collaborators, they completely solved the limit problem from the semi-classical Schrödinger-Poisson equations to the Vlasov-Poisson equations, while in the multi-dimensional case, they first introduced the so-called “modulated energy functional”, and locally solved the semi-classical limit of Schrödinger-Poisson equations to Euler system. Furthermore, this method has been applied in the study of the semi-classical limit of Gross-Pitaevskii equation in exterior domains to the Euler system with natural boundary condition; 3. They proved the global existence of energy dissipative solutions to the Camassa-Holm equation by using the Young measure theory;
In the recent few years, he mainly concentrated on the 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes system and related incompressible fluid equations. In particular, they constructed scaling invariant anisotropic Besov-Sobolev spaces and weighted Chemin-Lerner type space so that they first prove the global well-posedness of 3-D anisotropic incompressible Navier-Stokes system with sort of large data. Moreover, they extended their method to the study of 3-D incompressible inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes system, and obtained a series of nice works on this subject.
Besides, he obtained China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists in 2005, and was awarded the China Young Scientist’s prize in 2007.
The National Natural Science Prize is China's most prestigious award in natural science. The award is to recognize achievements in various fields of natural science that bring significant advancement in scientific knowledge.
