Prof. YUAN Yaxiang Elected as the Fellow of the American Mathematical Society

Prof. YUAN Yaxiang was elected as the Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.

Prof. YUAN Yaxiang is recognized for his contributions to nonlinear optimization, particularly on trust region methods, quasi-Newton methods and nonlinear conjugate gradient methods. He received many awards, including the second Prize of National Natural Science Award in 2006, the Shiing- Shen Chern Mathematics Award of Chinese Mathematical Society in 2011. He was elected as a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and a new CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) academician in 2011.

The American Mathematical Society, as one of the most important mathematical organizations in the world, was founded in 1888.  It has more than thirty thousand personal members and five hundred and seventy unit members all over the world.
