Prof. Ye TIAN, Professor of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences was honored with the Morningside Medal of Mathematics at the Sixth International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians(ICCM)for his very deep and original work in arithmetic algebraic geometry, especially on the congruent number problem.
Prof Ye TIAN received his PhD in mathematics from Columbia University in 2003. He worked for the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and McGill University as Post-Doctorate before joining AMSS, CAS in 2006. TIAN is currently a Professor of AMSS, CAS.
Prof TIAN's research interests lie at the Arithmetic Geometry and Number Theory. Joint with his collaborators, he has solved some long-standing open problems on Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture and Diophantine equations.
ICCM is a triennial event that brings together Chinese and overseas mathematicians. The Morningside Medal of Mathematics is awarded to outstanding mathematicians of Chinese descent of age under 45 to encourage them in their pursuit of mathematical truth. Up to six medals, two gold and four silver , are awarded every three years at the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians.
