On Uniqueness in Inverse Wave Scattering

Abstract:
We consider the uniqueness for inverse acoustic and elastic obstacle problems. It is still an open question whether knowing the far field patterns for finitely many incident plane waves completely determines the boundary of the scatterer. There is recent progress in the case of polyhedral obstacles, and we review some known results which are mainly based on reflection principles. Then we present a new approach to the uniqueness with one incident wave which leads, in particular, to a new result for the inverse Dirichlet problem in elasticity.
