Recently, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Fellow announced its 2026 class of Fellows. 25 new fellows were elected in this year in recognition of their outstanding contributions to applied mathematics and computational science. Professor Tao Zhou, from the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS), was elected for his significant contributions to uncertainty quantification and scientific computing.
Professor Tao Zhou has made pioneering contributions to areas such as uncertainty quantification, numerical methods for partial differential equations, and parallel-in-time algorithms. He has published over 90 papers in leading international journals and has been invited to write review articles for SIAM Review and Acta Numerica. He received the Youth Science and Technology Award of the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (2016), the Third Wang Xuan Outstanding Young Scholar Award (2022), and the Chern Mathematics Award of the Chinese Mathematical Society (2025). He serves on the editorial boards of many prestigious domestic and international journals, including SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, and Journal of Scientific Computing. He is currently the President of the East Asia Section of SIAM (EASIAM).
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), founded in 1951, is the world’s most influential organization in applied mathematics and computational science, with over 14,500 individual members. Its 19 academic journals, book series, and conferences have broad impact. Its members come from applied mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers, statisticians, and mathematics educators from around the world. In addition, SIAM has more than 500 institutional members from universities, companies, and research institutions.
